Matching Gift Announced!
The 50th Reunion Committee is excited to announce a matching gift challenge. We are collectively committing our own gifts to Oberlin, and we want you, our classmates, to join us. Your contributions will be matched, dollar for dollar, between now and the end of the calendar year, up to a total of $250,000.
We want to make this easy, so the match will apply to both current and deferred gifts. You can donate now, you can pledge to donate later, and you can notify the College of funds to be provided through your estate.
We’re happy to remind you that there are many great reasons to give at this time: a deepened commitment to racial justice through a Presidential Initiative, new curricula in Global Health and Business, and a major renovation to the campus's heating and cooling system toward its goal of carbon neutrality, just to name a few.
Welcome, Class of ’72!
Our 50th Reunion Committee is planning for a real, in-the-flesh reunion in Oberlin in June of 2022. That no longer looks like wishful thinking. One thing is for sure: that “50th” number is not a typo.
This website will let us begin to get back in touch with each other, whether we think we will make it to the reunion or not.
Please create your profile—click “First Time Visitors” for instructions. Once you have a profile you will be able to read other classmates’ profiles and contact them through the site; your real-world contact information will not be visible.
The photos that people have posted to “Photos From Back Then” are amazing—please keep those coming!

Welcome from the 50th Reunion Committee
The Class of 1972 50th Reunion Committee is glad to welcome you to this private, password-protected Class of 1972 website. Here is where you can find updates on potential reunion events, read news about and see photos of classmates, send private messages to classmates, follow discussion threads, and spend time to remember classmates who have passed on. In your profile you can post what you have done during the past years since we all left Oberlin, as well as information about your family if you wish.
The Committee is beginning the process of planning our 50th Reunion for spring 2022. We do not yet know what format our 50th Reunion will take, ie: whether we will have a fully in-person reunion, a hybrid of virtual and in-person activities, or a mainly virtual Reunion program. We will be closely watching the results of the national vaccination campaign on the health of the nation and on the safety of travel and large gatherings in Northeast Ohio, as we get closer to spring 2022. You can follow the ongoing status at Oberlin, as well as campus and schedule adaptations to public health requirements, at www.Oberlin.edu/news/corona-virus-updates
It has been terrific to see how thoughtfully and creatively Oberlin has responded to the challenges of resuming an on-campus educational experience for the 2020-2021 fall semester, after students completed the spring 2020 semester virtually. This academic year’s 3-semester approach, utilizing the summer months of 2021 for a third semester, has allowed de-densification of the campus, which, coupled with excellent adherence to safety requirements as well as extensive testing and contact tracing, has resulted in the campus remaining healthy overall. Decisions for the 2021-2022 semester format will be made in spring 2021.
Another responsibility of 50th Reunion Committee members is to reach out to each of you to encourage your contributions to our 50th Reunion Class Gift, which is the signature gift for us to “give back” for those students coming after us. Oberlin needs our support. We hope that you will welcome our outreach and that you will consider giving generously to help Oberlin students now and in the future to have the same high-quality level of education that we received, which set each of us upon our life’s course.
Please do establish your profile on this website through the First Time Visitors page, and use the Contact Us button for suggestions for the website itself and suggestions for the 50th Reunion Committee. We greatly look forward to seeing you in person or virtually at our 50th Reunion in spring 2022.
Stay safe and well!
